AMPS ANALOG CELL NETWORKS TO BE SHUT DOWN
IN FEBRUARY 2008 - NSGDATACOM OFFERS FAX AND VOICE SOLUTION FOR
AMPS USERS
CHANTILLY, VA — October 30, 2007 —
After February 18, 2008, more than 300,000 analog “Bag-Phone”
subscribers may be without mobile fax and voice service. After that
date, the FCC will no longer require the major cellular carriers
to support AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone System), an analog-based
cell system, and the cell carriers are planning to shut down their
AMPS services. Digital networks do not reliably support traditional
fax. Current users of the AMPS service include truckers, barge operators,
the police and other first responders, for whom the ability to support
fax is an essential part of communications. Fax is the primary reason
they have continued to use AMPS rather than move to newer digital
services.
BagFax from NSGDatacom is a modern, direct replacement
for the traditional AMPS “Bag Phone”. BagFax includes
up to four ports, which connect to analog fax machines and traditional
telephone handsets for fax and voice calls. BagFax connects to your
current carrier’s wireless data network.
Rich Yalen, CEO, said, “We are excited about
this technology. BagFax provides an ideal solution for AMPS fax
and voice applications. It is easy to deploy and requires no change
to current operational procedures, after the cutover to your carrier’s
wireless data service.”
Conventional fax calls are sensitive to delays and
require a reliable level of delivery that IP networks cannot provide.
NSGDatacom’s patented technology overcomes these problems
and provides reliable fax transmission over digital services for
mobile units. BagFax is rugged, tolerating vehicle vibration, wide
operating temperature ranges and dust. The unit’s mounting
ears allow easy installation in the limited confines of a vehicle.
It is very easy to use and able to receive and send fax as soon
as it connects to the wireless data network. In addition to fax,
BagFax supports transparent off-premises extensions for standard
voice calls (OPX).
